Google Analytics 4 is replacing Universal Analytics. On July 1, 2023,
To change from Google Analytics (GA) to GA4, you will need to follow a few steps:
- Create a new GA4 property in your Google Analytics account. This can be done by clicking the “Admin” button on the bottom left of the GA interface, then selecting “Create Property” in the “Property” column. Follow the prompts to create your new GA4 property.
- Install the GA4 tracking code on your website. This code is different from the GA tracking code, so make sure you’re using the correct one. You can find the GA4 tracking code by clicking on your new GA4 property in the “Property” column of the GA interface, then clicking “Data Streams” in the “Streams” column.
- Set up your data streams in GA4. Data streams are collections of data that are sent to your GA4 property. You can set up data streams for your website, as well as for mobile apps and other sources of data.
- Configure your event tracking in GA4. GA4 uses a new event tracking system that is different from the one used in GA. You will need to configure your event tracking to make sure it is collecting the data you need.
- Set up your reporting in GA4. GA4 has a new interface for reporting, so you will need to familiarize yourself with it and set up your reports accordingly.
- Migrate your data from GA to GA4. This can be done using the data import feature in GA4. Follow the prompts to import your GA data into your new GA4 property.
- Finally, make sure to test your GA4 implementation to make sure it is working properly. Use the GA4 DebugView feature to see the data being sent to your GA4 property in real-time.
By following these steps, you should be able to switch from GA to GA4 and start taking advantage of its new features and capabilities.
